Review: This hilarious yet warm-fuzzy romantic comedy revolves around the relationship between Koizumi Risa and Atsushi Otani. Risa and Otani both suffer from height complexes. Risa is taller than the average Japanese girl and Otani is shorter than the average Japanese boy.Their constant bickering makes them the “All Hanshin-Kyojin” or comedy duo of the school. As they both try to overcome their complexes in finding relationships, their friendship develops … and Risa finds herself having feelings for Otani. Will Risa’s feelings be returned? Can Otani and Risa go beyond just being “All Hanshin Kyojin”?

Lovely Complex is one of the few anime where I simply can’t wait to see the next episode. Amidst the hilarious jokes and bickering between Risa and Otani, there is a much deeper emotional story going on between the characters. Without falling into the stereotypical romance animes and the shallow semi-ecchi nature of most high school romances, Lovely Complex is immensely honest and heartwarming as we get closer to understanding Risa and Otani’s personalities, fears and feelings.
